Secret Desires Update

Posted by Nora Quick on Sunday, September 30, 2012, In : Site Updates & News

Been having a few problems with Yola lately. The last blog post never got updated until now, and it screwed up Secret Desires.

That should be all fixed and finally Chapter Six of Secret Desires is up here, should be in literotica in a few days.

Tomorrow I'll have the next Writing 102 lesson up, until then, happy reading!

An Argument For Random Drug Tests

Posted by Nora Quick on Thursday, September 27, 2012, In : Strangeness

My friends on Facebook have seen some of this rant, but let's explore it more today. If you haven't read any Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich, this will make no sense, so feel free to skip.

One for the Money was made into a movie. GREAT SCRIPT! It was so spot-on that very few scenes were dropped (redundant ones and only a couple) and most dialogue was straight from the novel. So why did it only get a 2% rating on Rotten Tomatoes? Because the casting was so maniacally bad, it's not funn...

Writing 102: 1-D Seeking a Needle in a Haystack? Use a Magnet!

Posted by Nora Quick on Monday, September 24, 2012, In : Writing 102

It's no secret the low opinion I have of Literary Agents. Still, they can help you, and we've covered how. If you decide that's the way for you to publish, this will help you. If you're on board with me and want to go self publishing, read on as well. If you're tempted to try Vanity publishing...read on, read on.

Writers always feel this way when it comes time to publish

Let's keep this short and sweet. When looking for an agent, find one or an agency that doesn't have a #1 NY Times Bestsell...

I Triple Dog Dare You

Posted by Nora Quick on Saturday, September 22, 2012, In : A Writer's Life

I just discovered a horrible game...and it's been suggested it can make me a better writer. Before we get to what that game is, I need to back up and explain a conversation I had with a fellow writer.

How 99% of conversations with other writers usually go

Her: "You seem to write a lot of romances."
Me: "I only wrote one, most of my stories have romance in them, yeah. So what?"
Her: "You're about as romantic as a tax audit."
Me: "....did you just call me and say that so I could tell you to go fu...

Out of the Past Part 4 & Quick Update

Posted by Nora Quick on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, In : Site Updates & News

Out of the Past Part 4 has been uploaded to Literotica, but the entire story, all 4 parts, is live here now. It's not edited like my other short stories, I was hoping it would be novella length but didn't quite make it.

Also sorry for the slow blogging. As it happens when you're sick the second you're better you have to play massive catch-up so I did yesterday and today. I managed to do some writing but also in these 48 hours will have spent a combined total of 19 hours out of the house for wo...

A German, Pole, and Jew walk Into a Bar...Order Three Beers, Pay, and Sit Down

Posted by Nora Quick on Monday, September 17, 2012, In : A Writer's Life

Well, damn it, I was back but couldn't post last few days as the flu struck. I think it's the flu. Either the flu, the worst goddamn head cold ever, or the zombie apocalypse has come and I'll need to eat brains soon. Whatever it is, I'm out of bed and not all that nauseous, at last!

Something I've been musing over is racial stereotypes in books. See, stuck in bed, I read in between blowing my nose and cursing all viruses. The last two books I re-read were Blue Moon by Lori Handeland and Sizzli...

Fun Fact: Insanity Is a Legal Term

Posted by Nora Quick on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, In : Strangeness

Well, it's almost over. My house guests are gone, but I am still helping them. I work 3 jobs and am behind on them all. Catching up is gonna be a bitch. I did learn something important from the last 3 months of being a virtual slave: another pitfall for those who work at home.

Again, no one thinks you're actually working, and as such, people who ask for favors will ask you for Herculean favors of time & effort. I love my friends, but for the next 6 months I am going through a "go fuck yourself...

Writing 102: 1-C Why You Hear 50 Million "Who" Songs Every Day

Posted by Nora Quick on Saturday, September 8, 2012, In : Writing 102

Resuming writing 102, we've gotten our idea, designed our plot, paced our conflict, created character bios, have written a few chapters, and started to build a fan base. In our last lesson you decided if you want to publish the old or new way. Now you have to make some adjustments for that. C'mon kids, it's time to sell out!

To sell out: (v) To place the goal of making money over any artistic merit or construct. Surprisingly effective

Writing is an art, but it is also a business. Never forge...

A Birthday Note

Posted by Nora Quick on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, In : Site Updates & News

Well, it's after midnight, so it's my birthday. I'm not the biggest birthday person in the world so I made my mom's chili today for tomorrow (no cooking tomorrow AND second day chili is always better than fresh). My brother took me hiking Monday and my father may stop by at dinner time with a card. That's about it, and that's how I like my birthday, nice and quiet.

In other news, the thing keeping me from blogging/writing much will be ending this week. Starting next week Writing 102 picks up a...
