Merry Fuckin' Christmas

Posted by Nora Quick on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, In : A Writer's Life
Hello world, it's been a long time. As you know from my last post December 13th was bad. Well, it only got worse.

Just 5 hours after my last post I was suddenly laid off from my day job...by email. Why? Beats the hell out of me. I was the highest paid copy writer on staff, was lauded constantly, and then bam! One day, an email saying there was no more work, but oh, by the way, would I work for them for free? So my best guess was they're not doing so well in the economy, and tried to keep me on...

I Like Work, It Fascinates Me:I Sit & Stare At It For Hours

Posted by Nora Quick on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, In : A Writer's Life

A friend in need is a fiend indeed. Let me state first and foremost I love my friends, many like siblings, but god, having a social life precludes being productive, particularly with writing.

Seriously, does work look appealing compared to this?

I really think college is valuable in only one way: it teaches us we only have time to fully enjoy two things. Want to do well in school and have friends? No sleep for you. Want to have good grades and a full nights sleep? Gotta be lonely. Want to s...

Zombies, Avian Bunnies, Symbolic Food & War

Posted by Nora Quick on Friday, April 6, 2012, In : Strangeness

It's that time again, the time a artists fear unless they were born & raised in an artists colony. A holiday that requires family face-time.

In my world family dinners are also known as "troll gatherings." Why do they always ask us atheists to say a prayer, then get pissed when we bow our heads and say "Dear Loki, thanks for nothing!"?

Maybe you celebrate the cosmic Jewish zombie, maybe you're more of the "let's eat ham and pretend bunnies lay eggs" variety, or maybe you get to enjoy the shee...

Happy New Year & Kindle Lending

Posted by Nora Quick on Sunday, January 1, 2012, In : Writing Advice
Happy New Year, one and all. All right, in all pragmatic fairness, no one can ensure 365-6 continuous days of happiness, so um, Survive the New Year?

First off, my first novel Case of the Missing Millionaire for Kindle is now available through Kindle Select for 90 days. This means if you're a Kindle user and have Amazon Prime (I do and if you don't, Prime is soooo worth it. For something like $75 a year all your 2-day shipping on Prime products is free and your overnight is only $3.99. I proba...

Of Dubstep & Thanskgiving

Posted by Nora Quick on Saturday, November 26, 2011, In : Writing Advice
I hope everyone had a good holiday. I'll be honest: I did not. I have always and will always hate Thanksgiving with a passion and surviving it is the best I can look forward to. The funny thing is i almost believe I tempted the universe by comparing the family dinner I attend to dubstep: the words/lyrics are stolen, the pace changes randomly, and there's no art to it. Over the last 48 hours dubstep keeps being foisted on me, no matter how much I hate it.

So my mood is a bit dark, actually bett...

Work Halted on "The Longest Midnight" & Halloween Contest Results

Posted by Nora Quick on Sunday, October 30, 2011, In : Contests
It's been a very busy time with a lot of changes happening recently. My writing partner Susan Droste has some family commitments that necessitate us taking a break from writing the first novel of the Something Wicked series.

Additionally, my story "Morrigan's Curse" did not win anything, despite being in 2nd place for last 3 of the 4 weeks of the contest. There seemed to be some funny things going on with voting sweeps that made little or no sense. Frankly I'll keep positing stories on literot...

New Story "Morrigan's Curse" In Literotica.com's Halloween 2011 Contest

Posted by Nora Quick on Monday, October 3, 2011, In : Contests
Morrigan's Curse is a 11,989 word short story submitted in the Literotica.com Halloween 2011 Contest. The tale of one of Morrigan's warriors, Cillian, and his true love Siobhan begins with their deaths and takes some spooky twists and turns. Set primarily in modern day, on a Halloween night in the world of high fashion, Siobhan has been reincarnated into the body of Kelly, direct decedent of the man who killed Siobhan and Cillian. Cillian, a ghost, is allowed to take corporeal form every Samh...
