Missive From the Darkness

Posted by Nora Quick on Saturday, July 16, 2016, In : A Writer's Life
First up, I have finished the content editing on Secret Desires, which is currently due out in December of 2016, but that is not final and we may actually have a release date in October depending on red Sage's schedule.

On the other hand, you can see I have not been blogging, posting to literotica, or otherwise active as of late. Sadly, in addition to working a demanding job and sending all my spare time hunting for a new one. In addition, I have had some serious health issues.

I discovered I a...

The Editing Bug Bites Too

Posted by Nora Quick on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, In : Site Updates & News
Unfortunately, you can see it's been a month since my last post. Working a seasonal retail job around Christmas pretty much ate up all my time, and frankly time off was spent doing laundry, grocery shopping, and sleeping.

Now things have evened out, and you'd think I'd be hit by the writing bug, but alas, the editing bug got me. I will be uploading the next Fantasy Emporium story to literotica soon, but I am also working on the next Marly Jackson (rather, trying to get started) as my hands as ...

Better Late Than Never...

Posted by Nora Quick on Saturday, November 28, 2015, In : Site Updates & News

I’m back, baby!

After a lot of soul searching, I’ve decided to come back to Literotica. I’m staying off the forums. In my wise old age I have learned that the Internet with its anonymity is a playground for assholes, and encourages the darker sides to normal people. As such, I’m no longer participating in forum posts or chains, but I will check it for any private messages/questions.

I miss writing for lit, connecting with my fans, and being able to write shorter stories instead of just ...

106-3: I Have That Goddamn Vitamin C Song Stuck In My Head Too....

Posted by Nora Quick on Saturday, August 8, 2015, In : Writing 106

We made it to the end. If you are reading this, you have a website, a blog, and social media accounts under your publishing name. You have a completed, published book, you are a member of a writing group, you’ve been attending events as an author, and you’re working hard at marketing yourself. Maybe you have an agent, a publishing contract, or you have a growing reputation as an Indie author.

If you followed all the lessons, whatever your goal was, you have reached it, the first and most i...

Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay....

Posted by Nora Quick on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, In : A Writer's Life

For the first time in my life since I began writing fiction at age four or five I am taking an intentional break from writing. I’ve taken long breaks before (when school/work got too heavy, or due to suffering depression I couldn’t focus) but those were times I had to. Now is by choice.

I freely admit I have suffered three bouts of depression in my life. The first time was when my mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness and quickly faded, dying just one year later. That was the worst ...

Eight Ball Says: Ask Again Later

Posted by Nora Quick on Monday, January 12, 2015, In : A Writer's Life

Hello my friends! As you know by now Hidden Magic is available in multiple formats for $4.25 at eRedsage or $4.99 for Kindle at Amazon, and for Nook at Barnes & Noble. And I released The Dryad currently available in all eBook formats at Smashwords, soon to be on Amazon and Barnes & Noble plus many others. So I have been busy not only with holiday madness but getting the word out.

I understand as such many of my long-suffering Literotica fans have been wondering about future free writings, pa...

Updates on My Free Stories

Posted by Nora Quick on Sunday, December 7, 2014, In : Site Updates & News
Since 2007 I've been a loyal writer on Literotica. I've won 4 awards on there and had some great experiences (except in the forums. Sadly, like any site, the forum is just filled with trolls because the poor mods are vastly outnumbered). I recommend you check out Literotica.com if you enjoy erotic stories (and even non-erotic ones, there's everything there.)

I had predicted story orders before but of course there was a reshuffling thanks to the interminable work on making The Violin Case work ...

Book & Story Updates for Late 2014/Early 2015

It's time to take stock of my life, my writing life. I don't take much stock of my life in general, for in general i leave my livestock alone. However things are gearing up.

Quickly, I have a new story in literotica in the Halloween Contest now, a short erotic horror. Please check out Blood On The Moon and be sure to vote, thanks!

First, updates that are 100% guaranteed:

Ending a book or series is really hard for an author. I know, whine, whine, whine, why don't I? I know for many aspiring writers writing an end is an almost impossible dream, but once you master that it feels like graduation day every time you do it.

I know, you're asking wha? Bear with me. Remember graduating high school? You were so proud. A new life. College or work, adulthood! But you knew some of your friends you'd never see again, or you'd lose touch and become acquaintances instead. Bit...

Helpful Hints from Hell

Posted by Nora Quick on Monday, August 18, 2014, In : Contests
Hello friends. First the good news: Out of the Past (Part 3) won 1st place in the Literortica Reader's Choice Awards for August 2012. I guess Laurel & Manu are just a little behind on tallying so it was just awarded now two years later.

It's great to find that out. Admittedly, I kind of wish I had discovered this earlier. See, OOTP and the loose sequel Love On the Run were my ode to 1980's pulp novels. My guilty pleasure. Sandy beaches, a deadly mystery, casual sex, and buried secrets making ...

There haven't been blog posts all of July because Yola, my host, changed their system and the blog updater wasn't working. If you can read this they must have figured out which cable the IT Gimp chewed through and replaced it.

The latest chapter of A Dangerous Legacy was uploaded last night to literotica.com so look for it soon.

Secret Desires will be coming down this August as I plan to rewrite some of it, heavily edit it, and have it published late 2015 or early 2016.

Preview of "A Dangerous Legacy" Chapter 19

Posted by Nora Quick on Friday, March 14, 2014, In : Story Previews
Unfortunately I wasn't able to resume regular blogging when I thought. My computer issues are all fixed now, but it backed me up on life, and at last I am all caught up.

The muse didn't like being pent up so on 2 separate days I wrote 2 new chapters of A Dangerous Legacy and the first was put up lickety-split on literotica and the second has been submitted. It should go up soon, but until then, here's a preview:

Seconds later magic had brought me to Malachai.

One of the corruptions delayed ending Secret Desires which as you know was already delayed. However, the last chapter and a short epilogue have been completed, submitted to Literotica.com but are available now on my site, found HERE. I do hope you enjoy.

A Preview of Part 15 (Chapter 17) of A Dangerous Legacy

Posted by Nora Quick on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, In : Story Previews
Let's get right to the meat. Enjoy this preview:

Summoning with magic was harder when you didn’t know exactly what you sought. After fifteen minutes I had alarmed a few wolf librarians, rifled the council stacks, but I had a book accounting Chenzhou.

After two hours I was horrified. Vampires were not quite the creatures legend had made them out to be. They were born that way, as long as both parents were vampire, and until puberty were fully human.

And wolves had slaughtered even those childre...

Hello my friends, and welcome to another new year. I know my life may seem overly dramatic, and trust me, I'm tired of it, but that's the way it is. You're probably here to find out why I've been AWOL from this site and literotica.com for so log. The short answer is: shit happens.

Three hours later I was in my guest room, a suite in the east wing of the hotel we’d apparently commandeered, and I knew the matching suite in the west wing probably held Malachai. My pack was littered about the room but I had denied entrance to Val or any of the ...

Hello my faithful friends. First off, Chapter 14 of A Dangerous Legacy is now up on Literotica, I hope you enjoy. Chapter 15 was submitted 4 days ago so it should be up soon.

Secondly...my summer won't end, and that's why I haven't been posting.

Back in May my old apartment building got bought and, just my luck, the new owner decided he wanted to live in my apartment. So I got an eviction notice that didn't ask for money, just moving. Try as I might, I couldn't find a new place because rents in...

Howdy Ho There Y'all

Hello everyone. I have some updates and not all of it is good.

I know my readers are eager for me to finish the last chapter of Secret Desires and write more of A Deadly Legacy but I just can't right now. To be able to write you need stability and free time. I have neither.

I spent the last month working hard on building  foundation for a new company venture in California, one that would give me stability and free time. And now I found out one of my 4 partners was just indicted for tax fraud. S...

Not Dead Yet, Or Perhaps Undead

Hello there my faithful friends. Yes, it's been almost a solid month. I am still couchsurfing as I was kicked out of my old apartment by a new landlord who wanted to rehab it and the place I was going to move fell through. Then along came a new business opportunity which will require me to move to Los Angeles in December.  The good news is that of the 3 jobs I have, I will go down to just 2: writing and...filming porn. Not starring, but running the company.

All right, first a few updates for my literotica fans & loyal readers: The new chapter of Secret Desires (found here - permalink) will be on lit soon. Postings on lit are slow because they always slow during contests. This was supposed to be the final chapter of the story but I found I couldn't bring emotional closure that fast so there is 1 more coming.

A Dangerous Legacy will not appear on this site, merely on Literotica. Frankly, it's a mess and shaping up to be huge and I really don't have...

Hello there,

First up I hope you've seen the first few chapters of a new epic story A Dangerous Legacy up on literotica.com. It's  a modern day fantasy story featuring my favorite supernaturals, werewolves and witches, but I'm still in the process of writing it and I am hoping dragons will make an appearance. The story follows Anna, a young woman in poverty who learns the long lost mother she's known of but never contacted has died and left her a legacy. To achieve her inheritance she must pas...

Sorry it's been a month since posting. It's been an unusually busy month, not in a good way. Ayway, you don;t care about the actual drama and conflict of my life, you just care about the stuff I make up and pretend happens only to other people.

So in that spirit, Chapter 14 of Love On the Run is now up. I'm finishing up 15 this morning and then working on 16. So that means part 4, the conclusion, will be on literotica soon.

I also will put up a proper blog post this week. I have lots of thought...

It's March, and what a crazy month it's been. I've had some health issues which combined with other things means I am no longer planning to leave Chicago. That's right, I spoke to the smoke monster and I'm not leaving this island.

Oh, well. I'll make the most of it. My self-owned business, my night job, has been requiring tons of my time lately. I've also been writing a project you'll never see, it's just for me. However, I've been productive: the latest chapters of Secret Desires and Love On ...

Happy Almost Halloween, kiddees. The title of this post is from something my father used to say. It pissed him off when dynamic stories or movies suddenly ended abruptly with no explanation. He used to chalk it up to lazy, bad writing, rather than an existential commemoration of the protagonist. That's what today feels like for me.

Irony: Tragedy and comedy are the same, but different. Set-Up, expectation, Culmination, Inverse return defines them both. However, tragedy sucks.

Long story short I ended up writing the single longest sex scene I have ever tackled. I really hope you appreciate it, because I fucking hate writing sex scenes. Truly, it's all for you guys.

So that should be up soon, and soon as well the fully edited version will be up here. I'm still working three jobs and juggl...

Killing The White Rabbit

Posted by Nora Quick on Friday, July 20, 2012, In : A Writer's Life

Blog posts and writing in general have been spotty at best lately. I normally work three jobs, and do okay with it, but for a month now I've had house guests. These are the kind that mess up everything and make you cook all their meals, but you can't kick them out because they're family and have nowhere to go. One of them is a three year old. Add to that my landlord has gone bonkers and so I'm planning to move...of course output is going to be spotty.

This is how I feel right now...I just look...

Don't You Ever Laugh As the Hearse Goes By...

Posted by Nora Quick on Saturday, July 14, 2012, In : A Writer's Life

I've had my best friend Susan "Devin" Droste staying with me for two weeks, and living with another writer opens your eyes. It's amazing how many things go into our subconsciousnesses to formulate the tapestry that is us. Nowhere is it more apparent than when you write.

How does the subconscious work? This picture is as accurate as any

Something funny happened. I started writing Out of the Past, a short story styled after those 1980's pulp novels you bought off the circular rack at a gas st...

Preview of "Fey World" chapter 25 (The End) & Reflections.

Posted by Nora Quick on Thursday, May 31, 2012, In : Story Previews

Oh, you know you want it. You want to know how it all ends. And I'm gonna give you a preview, but first...I like to tease.

I know, I know, right now you feel like this. c'mon, it's cute!    Credit

It struck me that finishing Fey World is actually the end of a major chapter in my own life. Back in August of 2007 I was in a very different place. I was married, still happily at that time, we'd bought our first house, and just finished installing new appliances, painting, and redoing the floors. ...

Fey World Chapter 24 Preview & Notes

Posted by Nora Quick on Saturday, May 26, 2012,
The penultimate chapter of Fey World will be on Literotica soon. We'll get to a preview in a moment but I wanted to take some time to reflect on it.

I have a confession: I wrote this story with no summary or outline until chapter 20. Eep! If it ever seems disjointed, that's why. The very first lines came to me while I was...sitting on the toilet. The idea of the last Viking fleeing from a monster and stumbling onto something magical hit me. Three mysteries in one, science fiction...I HAD to wr...

Creating Your Own Landscape

Posted by Nora Quick on Saturday, May 19, 2012,

I write this rewatching Stardust the film. I confess though Neil Gaiman is awesome I have a hard time reading most of his work, but the film adaptations are much more accessible. Why? Because Gaiman has the most completely unique landscape of any author I have ever encountered. Though it makes him slightly inaccessible to me, that's a good thing.

Many Gaiman stories have certain parts that make as much sense to me as this sign. Credit

Every writer should have their own landscape. What is a l...

Fey World Chapter 23 Preview

Posted by Nora Quick on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, In : Story Previews

Today I uploaded Chapter 23 of Fey World to literotica and with luck it'll be up by Friday. They've been slower in recent months, so we'll see but here's a teaser for you:

“In my childhood I heard many tales, and one tells of an old Jarl, a small king, who was lost at sea during a raid. He landed on a strange shore but a storm had cast many men overboard as well as their supplies. By the time this Jarl reached the shore he was the sole survivor.

Writing 101: 1-B Under the Influence

Posted by Nora Quick on Friday, May 4, 2012, In : Writing 101

Last 101 lesson we discussed gaining inspiration from direct sources, basically crafting tasteful fanfiction. Today we delve into the world of "no copyright lawsuit worries" inspiration drawing again from stories, movies, and TV shows, but using basics and not directly specific plot points and characters. Indirect influential inspiration is about using voice, themes, and imitating minor arcs.

Just hang in there, we'll get through it. Credit.

A note on voice: it is basically comprised of your w...

Developing A Thick Skin

Posted by Nora Quick on Monday, April 16, 2012, In : A Writer's Life

Most writers are introverts. No, that doesn't mean we're shy, it just means we work better alone, socializing tires us out, and we always think before we speak. Another trademark for introverts is we do tend to be thin-skinned.

This is a writer's natural sleeping position, with that exact expression

I have yet to hear anything bad about Marly Jackson but since I've taken a break from updating Fey World on literotica.com, I've been getting many negative comments on my other storie...

Two Legged Lampreys & The Women Who Love Them

Posted by Nora Quick on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, In : Strangeness

Welcome all, I hope you survived the holiday. Today's post isn't going to be on writing so much, it's more of an update/explanation/rant. Of course a rant. Also, this was originally written on Monday 4/9/12 but Yola had issues that prevented it from being posted until now.

I don't know how computers work exactly, but this seems like a reasonable explanation

First off, to my literotica fans, I do apologize there has been no update on Fey World as promised. Times have been lean on my end and I...

2012 Releases Changing

Posted by Nora Quick on Thursday, April 5, 2012, In : Books
I once wrote how announcing any project before it was completely written dooms it. Seems I'm right.

The next Marly Jackson novel The Violin Case will be coming out in September as planned. By the grace of the gods that hasn't changed, however there are some other changes. After a potential project came up with my copy writing job (telling you about it will doom it, I swear!) the erotic romance I was working on for a publisher has been shelved until 2013.

As such I have a spot of downtime and af...

Smoke. Smoke. ARE YOU SMOKING YET!?! (NSFW)

Posted by Nora Quick on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, In : Writing Advice

There are many “subliminal” messages we are “treated to” every day. Even if, like me, you don’t watch TV to escape them, they’re still there. I can’t tell you how many damn times I’ve watched a “public good” ad online about taking to teens about sex and had to run out to buy a burger. Wait, wha? Well, those ads always seem to take place at the dinner table and families always eat either chicken or beef. Come to think of it, I eat way too much beef. Humans should only have...

The Remainders Of The Day or Fucking Muse (NSFW)

Posted by Nora Quick on Friday, March 23, 2012, In : Writing Advice

Inspiration is one of the most common things writers struggle with. It either rains or pours. We know about the drought times, aka "writer's block" but not about the buffet time. It's frustrating just as much, and if you've never experienced it, picture this: you had a big lunch at home and are stuffed when a friend calls you up and invites to you a $2.00 all you can eat steak buffet, but you're so full you feel sick, and now you feel pissed off in three ways. That is the feeling of having to...

Happy New Year & Kindle Lending

Posted by Nora Quick on Sunday, January 1, 2012, In : Writing Advice
Happy New Year, one and all. All right, in all pragmatic fairness, no one can ensure 365-6 continuous days of happiness, so um, Survive the New Year?

First off, my first novel Case of the Missing Millionaire for Kindle is now available through Kindle Select for 90 days. This means if you're a Kindle user and have Amazon Prime (I do and if you don't, Prime is soooo worth it. For something like $75 a year all your 2-day shipping on Prime products is free and your overnight is only $3.99. I proba...

On Book Titles & Sex Advice

Posted by Nora Quick on Monday, December 12, 2011, In : Strangeness
I've had a strange life journey. I'm 31 and not yet ready to write my biography, and frankly if I tried I doubt anyone would believe me. Of the many strange paths I've wandered down, one was studying psychology and earning 3 degrees in it. This might not sound strange, but in proper context with my other various jobs it always surprises people. I extensively studied human sexuality and I'll admit to a vast wealth of personal experience with the subject and so it has suited me as the go-to per...

Serial Stories & 600 Word Story Contest on Lulu

Posted by Nora Quick on Friday, November 4, 2011, In : Contests
For those of you who found me through Literotica.com you're probably familiar with my story on there "Darkness Calling." I have just uploaded the penultimate chapter and am almost done writing the final chapter. After a few years on this I have to admit, I'm glad to be saying goodbye.

The problem with writing serial stories is that it will always, 100% of the time, take longer than you expect. Life happens. In my case with this story I took almost 2 years off due to some major life changes, an...

Working on "The Longest Midnight" & "The Violin Case"

Posted by Nora Quick on Monday, October 10, 2011, In : Books
I'm hard at work on my next 2 novels. The first is The Violin Case, the follow up to my current Marly Jackson Mystery Case Of The Missing Millionaire out now. The Violin Case is due out September of 2012, and is being completely reworked from the alternate novella (found on literotica.com) already online.

I've also begun work on The Longest Midnight the first novel of the Something Wicked Series, an urban fantasy story line co-authored by my best friend and poet Susan Droste.

In The Longest Mid...
