Missive From the Darkness

Posted by Nora Quick on Saturday, July 16, 2016, In : A Writer's Life
First up, I have finished the content editing on Secret Desires, which is currently due out in December of 2016, but that is not final and we may actually have a release date in October depending on red Sage's schedule.

On the other hand, you can see I have not been blogging, posting to literotica, or otherwise active as of late. Sadly, in addition to working a demanding job and sending all my spare time hunting for a new one. In addition, I have had some serious health issues.

I discovered I a...

Of Math, Psychology, and Secret Desires: Delayed Monday Rant

Posted by Nora Quick on Thursday, May 7, 2015, In : A Writer's Life
Hello there,

Thank you for patiently waiting for a delayed Monday rant. It’s been a busy weekend and week for me, lots of babysitting, a dental visit that left me talking like Sly Stallone for hours, a 16 hour workday, and more trolls on the literotica forum. *whew*

As a note, Literotica was updating their site and I was not been able to even load it in some time, so the next chapter of Thief In the Night has been delayed, but has been submitted now that Literotica is back up. Ah, life. At le...

My Summer Won't End!

Posted by Nora Quick on Saturday, November 2, 2013, In : A Writer's Life
Hello my faithful friends. First off, Chapter 14 of A Dangerous Legacy is now up on Literotica, I hope you enjoy. Chapter 15 was submitted 4 days ago so it should be up soon.

Secondly...my summer won't end, and that's why I haven't been posting.

Back in May my old apartment building got bought and, just my luck, the new owner decided he wanted to live in my apartment. So I got an eviction notice that didn't ask for money, just moving. Try as I might, I couldn't find a new place because rents in...

Major News! "Darkness Calling" Update Too!

Posted by Nora Quick on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, In : Books
Sorry for the delay in posting. as my previous entries told you, life has been very busy. The house my apartment is in was sold, my roommates are gone, and I am living alone, at least that's relaxing. Looks like my move to CA will be in March, still not sure.

Also, in my night job, I've hired 3 new people and have been training them so my time is fairly limited.

As such, major changes to publishing. First, the bad news: The Violin Case has been delayed again. I'm not going to give a publishing ...

Merry Fuckin' Christmas

Posted by Nora Quick on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, In : A Writer's Life
Hello world, it's been a long time. As you know from my last post December 13th was bad. Well, it only got worse.

Just 5 hours after my last post I was suddenly laid off from my day job...by email. Why? Beats the hell out of me. I was the highest paid copy writer on staff, was lauded constantly, and then bam! One day, an email saying there was no more work, but oh, by the way, would I work for them for free? So my best guess was they're not doing so well in the economy, and tried to keep me on...

Feed A Cold, Starve A fever, and Sedate A Writer

Posted by Nora Quick on Friday, November 16, 2012, In : A Writer's Life

Sorry for my absence, and the delay in posting Secret Desires Chapter 13 (now up and available here). I got hit by the flu and was down for the count for 4.5 days. Now I'm playing catch up on all 3 of my jobs. Ugh.

When you're sick you can;t write, you can't do damn near anything

After Thanksgiving, Secret Desires updates will be on hold for all of December so I can turn my attention to final edits and formatting of Wolf Tales Volume I. It's going to get down to the wire.

After that the next ...

How To Fake Your Own Death

Posted by Nora Quick on Friday, November 9, 2012, In : A Writer's Life

I've been insanely busy lately, and it's probably a good thing. I have been suffering from depression again, but keeping busy is actually helping. Odd, I know, but what works to treat depression is different for everyone.

Scary enough, some people still treat it with trepanning.  Ew.

I want to be honest about depression mainly because most writers experience it. Hell, most people do, but for artists it's almost a necessary evil. You see, the dark side of art is that it is born in suffering. A...

Don't You Ever Laugh As the Hearse Goes By...

Posted by Nora Quick on Saturday, July 14, 2012, In : A Writer's Life

I've had my best friend Susan "Devin" Droste staying with me for two weeks, and living with another writer opens your eyes. It's amazing how many things go into our subconsciousnesses to formulate the tapestry that is us. Nowhere is it more apparent than when you write.

How does the subconscious work? This picture is as accurate as any

Something funny happened. I started writing Out of the Past, a short story styled after those 1980's pulp novels you bought off the circular rack at a gas st...

Missives From The Abyss

Posted by Nora Quick on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, In : A Writer's Life

A writer's life is always...fun. by fun I mean that sometimes it's ha-ha!" fun, and sometimes it's "goddamn it, kill me NOW!" fun. Usually, it's both.

The good news is waking up like this everyday is the master class in learning not to give a fuck

Lately it's been both for me. Mostly because of the Tournament Stories. I'm working on something with them with people outside writing, and I won't say just what, but it means changing things around. By changing things around, of course I mean "rap...

Whiteout

Posted by Nora Quick on Thursday, April 26, 2012, In : Strangeness

As all good starving artists do, I pulled my butt out the fire and here I am, back online.

The key to dealing with Internet providers: speak softly and carry a fully automatic machine gun

Today I wanted to talk a little bit about an article that caught my attention, written by Ursula K. LeGuin, author of the Earthsea books. For all aspiring authors this is worth reading: check it out here and see the process for how you can easily lose creative control in adaptations of your work. Her biggest...

Got Paranormal?

Posted by Nora Quick on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, In : A Writer's Life
As a head's up I may not post for several days, all part of the fun of being a starving artist. In my day job we've been between projects for a month now, and my night job...the economy has tanked it, so I've had 0 income for a month. Since food takes precedence my internet bill has been neglected and will be until I can get some scratch together.

Because you have to be this cute for that line to work

As such I wanted today to be a positive blog. I'm always bitching about bad writing, so I th...
